Concrete Cleaning
Concrete holds dirt, mould and oil in its pores, which is why a quick hose-down never works. We use a flat surface cleaner and the right pressure to pull staining out evenly, with no zebra striping.
Plain, coloured, exposed aggregate and stencilled concrete all respond well, and we treat oil and rust spots as part of the job.
The black on Northern Beaches concrete is rarely just dirt. It is a living layer of algae and mould feeding on moisture and leaf litter, plus the brown tannin shadows left where leaves sat wet over winter. It is worst in shade and under trees, and a hose or broom does not touch it.
We treat that growth first so it dies in the pores of the concrete, then machine clean the surface for a finish with no wand stripes, and rinse everything through. Expect the concrete to come back close to its original colour, and expect us to walk the finished job with you before we leave, re-doing anything that is not right.

No. We set the pressure to clean the surface without eroding it. If the colour has already faded from age, cleaning will not restore the pigment but it will remove the grime hiding it.

It is organic growth, not the concrete ageing. Algae, mould and lichen colonise the porous surface, feeding on moisture, shade and leaf litter. That is why the south side of a slab or the tree-lined end of a driveway always looks worst. Treating the growth and cleaning the pores brings the original surface colour back.
Usually, yes. The brown marks left by wet leaves are tannin stains, and most lift with the right treatment and a thorough machine clean. Very old tannin marks that have soaked deep can leave a faint shadow, and we tell you honestly before we start what will lift fully and what may not.
A standard driveway or patio slab takes a couple of hours, and larger areas, like paths plus driveway plus alfresco, usually fit within half a day. Pre-treatment adds a little time up front but is why the clean lasts. You get a clear timeframe with your free quote.
Every 12 to 18 months keeps most Northern Beaches concrete looking good. Shaded slabs and anything under trees may want a yearly clean, while sunny, open areas stretch longer. Regular cleaning also stops the deep staining that becomes permanent when growth is left for years.
We kill it first. Blasting alone shears the growth off at the surface and leaves the roots alive in the pores, which is why DIY cleans green up again within months. Our pre-treatment kills the mould and algae at the root before we clean, so the result lasts significantly longer.
Access to an outside tap, cleared surfaces, and that is about it. Our machines are petrol powered so we do not need your electricity. Move cars and anything loose off the areas being cleaned, keep pets inside, and we will handle the rest, including protecting the gardens.
Almost never. Damp weather makes no difference to a concrete clean, since the slab is soaked during the process anyway. Only heavy rain or storms cause a reschedule, and in that case we contact you beforehand and move the job to the next clear day at no cost.
