Sandstone and Paver Sealing
We use a penetrating sealer, sometimes called an impregnating sealer. It soaks down into the pores of the stone rather than forming a film across the surface. That is the difference that matters on sandstone, and it is why the stone still looks like stone afterwards.
A film-forming or wet-look sealer sits on top. It darkens the colour, adds a sheen, and traps moisture underneath. Sandstone is porous and it needs to breathe, because moisture that cannot escape is what makes stone blow and flake at the face. A penetrating sealer leaves that path open.
What you get is a surface that repels water and oil instead of drinking them in. Spills sit on top long enough to be wiped up, everyday dirt has less to grip, and because the stone holds less moisture, mould and algae are slower to come back. The colour and texture stay exactly as they were.
Sealing only works on clean, dry stone, so it follows a proper clean rather than being done over the top of growth. We soft wash the surface first, let it dry out fully, then seal.

No. A penetrating sealer goes into the stone rather than forming a layer on it, so there is no sheen and no darkening. If you want the wet-look darker finish, that needs a topical sealer, which is a different product and behaves differently. We will talk you through the trade-off before anything is applied.
It is not permanent and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling it. How long it holds depends on the surface, how much sun and traffic it gets, and how porous the stone is. The upside of a penetrating sealer is that reapplying it is straightforward, because there is no old film to strip off first.
It slows them down, it does not stop them. Growth needs moisture, and a sealed surface holds less of it and dries faster, so the stone stays clean noticeably longer. It still needs a wash from time to time.
Sealing locks in whatever is there, so it goes on after cleaning, never before. If a stain will not come out with a proper clean we will tell you straight rather than sealing over it and calling it done.
