Brick Cleaning
Brick walls and fences on shaded or bush-facing sides of a home go green and black with mould over time. We clean the brick and mortar evenly so the wall looks cared for again.
We match the pressure to the age and condition of the brickwork, and use soft washing on anything older or rendered.
On the Northern Beaches the pattern is predictable: the south side of the house, the fence under the trees and the wall near the garden all grow green algae and black mould first. Brick is porous, and the mortar joints are even more so, which is why the growth keeps its grip through rain and scrubbing.
We pre-treat the wall so the growth dies in the pores, then clean with pressure suited to the age of the brick, or soft wash where the brickwork is older or the mortar is soft. Expect an even wall with clean joints, not a patchwork. And at the end we walk the wall with you, re-doing anything that is not right before we leave.

Yes. Green algae and black mould on brick fences are surface growth rooted into the pores of the brick and mortar. We treat it so it dies at the root and then clean it away evenly. Fences come up especially well because both faces can usually be done in the one visit.
Yes, with soft washing rather than pressure. High pressure strips and flakes paint, so painted brickwork gets our low-pressure treatment, which breaks down the mould and grime and rinses it away with the paint intact. If the paint is already failing, we point that out before we start.
A front fence or single wall usually takes an hour or two. Cleaning the brickwork of a whole house exterior is closer to a full day. Time depends on the wall area, the level of growth and whether we are pressure cleaning or soft washing, and we confirm it with your free quote.
Expect one to two years from a properly treated clean. Bush-facing and shaded walls regrow sooner, sunny exposed walls last longer. Because the growth is killed rather than just knocked off the surface, our cleans consistently outlast an untreated blast, which can green up again within a season.
Yes, that is part of the process. Beds along the base of a wall are wetted down before we apply anything, the treatment is kept on the brickwork, and everything gets a fresh-water rinse when we finish. Delicate plants hard against the wall can be covered on request.
Of course. Plenty of jobs are just the front fence, the letterbox wall or the one green wall on the shaded side. Small jobs are often best bundled with a driveway or house wash in the same visit for better value, and either way the quote is free.
Light rain does not matter, the wall is wet throughout the clean anyway. Heavy rain makes it hard to apply the pre-treatment properly and to check the finish, so in that case we call you before the day and shift the booking to the next clear slot at no charge.
